John Powers Middleton is an American film and television producer known for his work on films such as The Lego Movie (2014), Manchester By The Sea (2016) and The Disaster Artist (2017), and the critically acclaimed A&E television show Bates Motel. Manchester By The Sea was nominated for six Oscars, including wins for Best Actor (Casey Affleck) and Best Original Screenplay.
Middleton began his career as an intern, assistant, and script supervisor for a number of production companies, eventually partnering with Roy Lee under the Vertigo Entertainment banner in 2010. In 2013, Middleton and Lee partnered with Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane to form Good Universe, a film financing, production and global sales company.
In June of 2014, Middleton partnered with actor and director Casey Affleck to form The Affleck/Middleton Project. In addition to running The Affleck/Middleton Project, Middleton has continued to produce with Vertigo Entertainment, Good Universe, Univision Radio, Warner Brothers Entertainment, and Fox 21 Television Studios, which he later left for Warner Bros. Television. His film projects include Spike Lee’s Oldboy (2013), Run All Night (2015), The Lego Batman Movie (2017), The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017), Stephen King’s “It” (2017) and Minecraft: The Movie, to be released in 2019.
Middleton is also the founder of Middleton Media Group, a TV/movie production and finance company.
Outside of producing, Middleton was the national co-chair of the Republican National Committee’s Young Eagles program. He has hosted a variety of events in support of the Republican Party, including a 2015 fundraising event for 2016 Republican Party presidential candidate Jeb Bush. Middleton is a graduate of the Haverford School, and studied at Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania.
